About us
Nootan Baug is a living memory. Named after our beloved Ma Nootan, it’s more than a farm — it is a tribute to her grace, kindness, and strength. Nestled in the hills where Raigad meets Ratnagiri (just 150 km from Mumbai, along the old Mumbai–Goa highway), Nootan Baug is a forest-first, family-run initiative rooted in ethical farming and genuine love for nature.
"There is enough on this earth for everyone's need, but not for one man's greed”
Philosophy
We grow not for profit, but for purpose. Here, the forest eats first. Langurs, birds, insects, wild boars, and peacocks all claim their share of the crop — and only then do we begin to harvest what remains. That’s why every box of Alphonso mangoes, every handful of heirloom rice, and every sun-dried cashew from Nootan Baug is rare, restrained, and real.
Our farm is fully organic. We use compost from our own cattle shed and Jeevamrut (a traditional natural tonic of cow dung and local ingredients). There are no chemical fertilisers, pesticides, or fungicides — only neem oil and other ancestral practices to care for the crops. This means we lose a big part of our yield to nature, but what reaches your hands is pure, nourishing, and full of integrity.
The Story
We believe farming is not just about food — it’s about memory, legacy, and service. That’s why Nootan Baug is also home to our own seed bank. We grow only heirloom, non-GMO varieties — and share our seeds freely with neighbouring villages to help restore forgotten indigenous crops.
In doing so, Nootan Baug becomes more than a farm — it becomes a quiet act of preservation. A promise to nature, made in Ma’s name.
